Not far from Swanshurst Park and further away from the shopping centre of Moseley that  follows on from Kings Heath; St.Agnes is set in a quiet area of Moseley and part of a Birmingham City Council Conservation Area.

Tolkien's Birmingham

Moseley, Edgbaston and Hall Green are parts of the Midlands which provided inspiration for JRR Tolkien's  Middle Earth.  Not far away near the Hagley Road in Edgbaston stands an extraordinary 29m tower known as Perrott' s Folley, Birmingham's oddest architectural feature and a Victorian tower, part of the Edgbaston Waterworks; said to be the Twin Towers - Minas Morgul and Minas Tirith from Two Towers- Lord of the Rings.
 

Sarehole is said to have been the model for The Shire, the hobbits' home. Moseley Bog, a preserved haven for wild life and Nature Reserve by Birmingham City Council; is thought to be the Old Forest where Tom Bombadil lived and Frodo Baggins' faithful companion Sam Gamgee i sbelieved to have had his name derived from the local dialect word for cotton wool - its inventor was Birmingham surgeon, Dr Joseph Sampson Gamgee.
